Connections & Feasting on the Word: A Perfect Match

Why you'll love Connections if you liked Feasting on the Word

Connections is the new lectionary preaching and worship resource from Westminster John Knox Press. Like our earlier publication Feasting on the Word, Connections provides insightful commentary into all of the biblical passages from the three-year cycle of the Revised Common Lectionary.

In Connections, readers will discover relevant, in-depth, imaginative reflections on the lectionary by some of our generation's leading biblical scholars, theologians, homileticians, and other scholars. Like Feasting, Connections delivers incisive biblical commentary geared specifically to the needs of preaching; always in mind is the preacher's goal to give members of the congregation what they need to connect their lives to the message of Scripture.

Why you'll want to get Connections even if you
already have Feasting on the Word

Connections covers the same passages as Feasting on the Word, but in entirely new ways. First, Connections insists that the best way to dive into any given lectionary reading is to put it into conversation with the rest of Scripture. The larger literary unit to which a reading belongs, the book in which it appears, the genre of biblical content it represents, the other lectionary readings it accompanies, the overall biblical witness to which it contributes: all are brought to bear in plumbing the meaning of a given reading.

Second, Connections employs an even broader variety of interpretive tools and lenses to bring the reading alive for the congregation. Liturgical seasons, ethical questions, the church's theology and history, fiction, film, sociology, science, politics, art, and many other forms of creative human endeavor are placed in the service of illuminating each lection.

All who want to lead their congregation into a more faithful encounter with God through the journey of the lectionary will want to consider Connections.
