Sharing the Dream: Working to Eliminate Hunger, Poverty, Violence, Homelessness
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only U.S. federal holiday designated as a national day of service. A growing number of congregations have embraced Dr. King’s call to build a “beloved community” by striving to share the wealth of the earth with everyone so human decency triumphs and there is no hunger, poverty, violence or homelessness for anyone. This commitment to love and justice underlies their outreach work and encourages people to look for opportunities to serve. Presbyterians Today’s January/February cover story highlights how some Presbyterian congregations have taken Dr. King’s powerful message to heart and are working hard to make his dream a reality.
