Becoming Like a Pure Gold
Job is a product of wisdom literature in the late Old Testament. Job deals with the issue of human suffering in dramatic setting. Job lost everything including his sons and daughters and all of his possessions. Further Job became an extremely suffering in desperate physical illness. His four friends try to convince Job that the reason of his suffering is result of his sin before God. Job denies that accusation and defend himself as innocent before God. Finally God appears to Job and Job admits that he is ignorant of God's sovereign action and will. The Job ends with his recovery from the bottom of desperately lost place to much more blessed and abundant life.

욥기는 구약 성서지혜문학의 대표적인 작품으로 욥의 말로 형용할 수 없는 개인적인 고난과 상실 그리고 절망적인 육체적 곤경을 통해 인간이 당하는 고통의 문제를 다루고있다. 욥은 전 재산과 아들 딸들을 다 잃어버리고 극한적인 육체의 질병으로 절망적인 자리에 떨어진다. 욥의 네 친구들은 욥이 당하는 고난이 죄의 결과라고 공격하지만 욥은 하나님앞에서 자신의 의로움을 항변한다. 마침내 욥은 극적인 하나님과의 대면을 통해 자신이 얼마나 나약하고 어리석은 존재인가를 깨닫게 되고 하나님은 욥을 다시 회복하시며 이전보다 더 큰 축복으로 채워주신다.
