Syria: The Burden of Memory and The Hope of the Gospel, a Study Guide by the Syrla Lebanon Partnership Network of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., reviews the history of the formation of Syria from the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1917 up to the beginning of the "Arab Spring" in March 2011 in Part I. Part II summarizes the events from March 2011 to the present, including the efforts to bring change in the country by the proxy groups that complicated the situation. The government's response was decisive and aggressive. The role of the United States and its chief ally in the Middle East, Israel, are important elements of the story. Finally, the Church's calling and how it can respond concludes this study guide.  A Leader's guide for use with a four-session discussion provides questions to consider.  The guide includes maps of the region and color pictures of the destruction, as well as the focus on the hope of the gospel by the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon's churches.  This  is a 60-page publication with a discussion guide, plus eight pages of visuals and maps.  A companion website features enhanced resources for study, including video clips and the discussion guide.  Published by the Syria Lebanon Partnership Network of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., who encourage churches to form "partnerships with churches and church-related ministries in Syria and Lebanon."
