When A Time for Creation was first published in 2020, it affirmed that the praise of God as Creator belongs at the heart of Christian worship. Its resources have helped churches pray with thanksgiving for creation, repent of humanity’s misuse of the earth’s gifts, take responsibility for the created world, and hear the voice of creation itself in prayer.
This revised and expanded Second Edition comes at a significant moment in the life of the Church of England. It includes liturgical resources for the new Festival of Creation in Christ, through which the Church joins a growing ecumenical movement to celebrate the God who creates, sustains, reconciles and renews all things.
Drawing together texts from Common Worship with newly commissioned material, it also offers liturgies for all times and occasions when there is a focus on creation - in daily prayer, services of the word, school assemblies, eucharistic celebrations and seasonal services to mark the agricultural year.
Alongside the new liturgical material, this edition offers commentary from the Liturgical Commission and practical guidance to help parishes, schools, chaplaincies and other communities use the resources with confidence and imagination.
Together they invite congregations to confess the ways we have claimed God’s world as our own, to hear again that all things were created through Christ and for Christ, and to receive the promise that God makes all things new.
