Galatians reminds us of a time when the earliest followers of Christ struggled to ■define what exactly made a person a Christian. Paul addresses circumcision, ■dietary regulations and observance of Sabbath and festivals--irreversible ■commitments expected by the law of Moses--and argues about the Law's ■relevance for Gentile Christians.

Paul's Letter to the Galatians is simple and complex. Simple, because it focuses on a single objective, telling its original readers that God's actions through Jesus Christ are decisive and sufficient. Complex, because Paul's train of thought can be hard to follow, and specific details about the situation in Galatia strike many modern people as peculiar. Although some find Galatians difficult to understand, this letter's history demands that we read and consider it. The impact that Galatians has had on Christian theology, especially during and since the Protestant Reformations, cannot be overstated. This makes it one of the most influential documents ever written. This two-session study explores the letter's background and contents that set the stage for considering its ongoing relevance for Christian faith and life.
