In this new edition, John P. Burgess has updated references to the new Form of Government to reflect all major changes since 2018.

How can the Book of Confessions help ministers, elders, deacons, and other lay leaders when they face challenging situations within their congregations? John P. Burgess offers answers in this updated edition of Confessing Our Faith. Using the confessions as a framework, Burgess covers areas of ministry such as evangelism, discipleship, congregational care, and conflict resolution, offering, in each case, ways to respond based on core principles from the confessions.

A unique and practical reference, Confessing Our Faith is designed to aid church leaders in understanding how the major teachings of the confessions can guide the decisions and work of church ministry. Each chapter includes short case studies. This book can be used in many settings:

  • sessions training new leaders or providing education for members
  • seminary students preparing for ordination examinations
  • anyone simply wanting to know the basics of Reformed belief and practice

To further assist groups and individuals using this book, questions at the end of each chapter can be helpful aids during training sessions, group study discussions, or personal reflection.
