Overcoming the challenges of anti-racism work

Presbyterian pastors know that mobilizing their congregations for anti-racism work can be difficult. Many know firsthand the adverse reaction to any mention of the words, “racism,” “white supremacy” or “white privilege” on a Sunday morning. While some choose to tread carefully — or not at all — others are wading in and getting into “good trouble” by pressing the racial issue. Their passion comes from a belief that dismantling structural racism is a heart matter deeply rooted in Jesus’ mandate to love one another. In this month’s Presbyterians Today cover story,  we visit several congregations that are framing anti-racism work in spiritual practices and Scripture, and we see how they are making a difference in their communities.
