We love our pets! Many young people have grown up with pets around their home. Relating to other animals is part of recognizing the vastness of God's creation and pets often provide comfort and receive our love.
High school is a good time to think about our love of pets, especially if we're considering future pet ownership.
What all is involved in keeping a pet? How much do they cost? How much time will they require? Many youth have enjoyed the pleasures of a family house pet but not dealt with the multiple responsibilities such as the daily tasks of feeding, walking the pet, grooming, veterinarian visits, and the financial costs involved.
The session begins with participants sharing pictures of their pet(s) or a pet they'd like to have. The teens then discuss the positive and negative aspects of pet ownership and discuss just how much different pets cost and the time they require. Finally, case studies are presented to small groups about youth with pets who need to make decisions as to the care of their pet. A number of teaching alternatives are provided to tailor this study for your group.
