Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians provides access into an underrepresented and misunderstood community and will change the way readers think about transgender people, faith, and the future of Christianity. Hartke offers insight into Scriptures often used to enforce a fixed and binary conception of gender and highlights the narratives of both gender-expansive biblical characters and transgender Christians living today. This new updated and expanded edition includes even more tools to equip churches, pastors, and allies to better welcome and care for their trans and nonbinary neighbors.

New resources include:

• Study guide for small group discussion

• Sermon series outline “The Expansive God”

• Liturgy for name changes

• A conversation with Susannah Cornwall about pastoral care for transgender people

• A new foreword by Rebekah Bruesehoff and Jamie Bruesehoff about the power of affirming churches

Austen Hartke is the founder and executive director of Transmission Ministry Collective, an online community dedicated to the spiritual care, faith formation, and leadership potential of transgender and gender-expansive Christians. He is a graduate of Luther Seminary's Master of Arts program in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible Studies and is the winner of the 2014 John Milton Prize in Old Testament Writing from the same institution. He was named a Bush Foundation Fellow in 2019 and continues to provide education to churches and faith-related institutions around the world.
