Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel is famous for his quote that the opposite of love is not hate but indifference. Having witnessed so many of his family members and friends and neighbors killed, he asked why some people risked their lives to help while others, who expressed the same religious convictions, did nothing. Indifference is the enemy, he says.
How do we break the habit of indifference? Why do some people find it easier than others? How do we teach our children to be compassionate?
