In this study, participants will learn about the liturgical, theological, and historical traditions of the sacrament of baptism. What does baptism mean? How does it change us? What is the significance of the use of water in various traditions? Can you be a true Christian if you've never been baptized?
Participants will also have an opportunity to debate the importance of the differences among Christian traditions for baptism:
- Should infants be baptized? Or should one be old enough to confess belief in Christ? This debate has divided Christian communities for centuries.
- Can just anyone be baptized, or should there be some level of required spiritual and intellectual preparation?
- Jesus was baptized in the river, so shouldn't a "real" baptism require total immersion in a body of water?
