How can we begin a study of a subject about which so much has been written, but so little agreement has been achieved? What is not written about the antichrist is as significant as that which is: the scholarly six-volume Anchor Bible Dictionary does not even have an article titled "Antichrist." However, the figure of the antichrist is of central importance in many popular teachings about the end of the world. Is it possible to lay aside all our preconceptions and all that we have heard in order to start anew?
