Although many Christians are familiar with C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters, Christians and non-Christians alike have enjoyed reading the Chronicles of Narnia books for nearly sixty years.
Written shortly after the end of World War II, the Chronicles of Narnia books showcase C. S. Lewis's perspective on the timeless themes of loyalty, faith, sacrifice, and the clash between good and evil.
The film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is the second in a series of three films. The first is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), and the third is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010). The latter is based on the fifth book in C. S. Lewis's seven-part series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
This Disney Studios film has all the characteristics of a blockbuster. It boasts beautiful scenery and sweeping vistas filmed all over the world, excellent acting, grand music, fabulous computer-generated special effects and creatures, epic battles, and nonstop action. It is important for Christians to see and discuss this film to determine whether C. S. Lewis's theological themes have taken a back seat to Disney's special effects and battle scenes or have emerged victorious with their help. Does the film do justice to Lewis's theology, or does it come across as being just another fantasy genre adventure?
