In this session, participants will discuss the theology presented in The Shack in an effort to define and enhance their own beliefs about God's presence in our lives.
In many ways, Mack's experiences in The Shack mirror society's movement away from organized religion to a more personal, individualized spirituality. Mack has been to seminary, goes to church regularly, and says grace at meals. But his life's circumstances lead him to wonder what it is all for since his faithfulness still fails to shield him from deep suffering. There are no pat answers, but this study draws interesting parallels from the Bible to help us understand why loss, despair, and redemption are all a necessary part of living a life of faith, and why--despite God's loving presence--bad things still happen to good people.
