Does God take sides in situations of economic injustice? You bet, says Old Testament scholar Walter Brueggemann, despite the fact that church authorities and those who have more wealth and prosperity generally do not like to admit it. In this one-session study, Brueggemann provides the socio-economic context of the Bible and then takes the reader on a quick tour through the Psalms, the prophets, and the exodus story. Participants will discuss their own views on class warfare and particularly the role of collaborators who are neither the oppressed nor the oppressors. Time is given for personal or group reflection.
