A phone can enhance communication and relationships. Biblically, we are called to be in relationship with both God and our neighbors. In Genesis, God creates males and females because it is not good to be alone. We understand the Trinity as a \most holy relationship among God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, a relationship where all are eternally present to one another-probably not via text message.
However, this technology can also take teens places that parents do not want them to go. There are numerous stories in the news and from fellow parents about teens using their smartphones for sexting (sending sexually explicit messages) and for cheating during tests. Additionally, these phones can hurt a teen's relationships with friends and family if it becomes a replacement for close connections with others. While technologies benefit us in so many ways, we also need to be aware of their dangers. Moving beyond the salacious scare tactics of news reports, this study teaches parents how to talk to their teens about these dangers in order to help them avoid the pitfalls of smartphones.
