No film has ever been made that shows the cruel process of Roman scourging and execution by crucifixion so graphically as The Passion of the Christ. Indeed, so much so that many Christians have stayed away from the film. We have tried to select scenes that are not so filled with brutality, but it is not possible to omit all the effects of the scourging and beating.
Despite the controversy over the film, this study picks several scenes and adds scriptural suggestions, provoking the participants to reflect on and clarify what Scripture says about the passion and its meaning.
It is not necessary for participants to have seen the entire film before coming to class.
