Capitalism: A Love Story is noteworthy for two reasons. First, it is timely and very relevant to the financial crisis the world is going through. Second, Michael Moore reveals so fully the Christian basis for his views that he just might challenge our own reading and practice of the Scriptures.
In his first documentary Roger and Me the filmmaker persistently attempted to meet with General Motors CEO Roger Smith to ask why GM was firing so many people while it was making a record profit. He repeats that tactic in this film, even trying to make a citizen's arrest of a CEO; driving an armored car up to the various banks bailed out recently and demanding the people's money back; and near the end of the film he wraps a long strip of yellow crime scene tape around the New York Stock Exchange and other financial institutions.
Subtle this guy is not! But whether you agree with his views or not, he raises issues that we as Christians must consider as we strive to live faithfully-and in that sense this truly is a film for thoughtful Christians.
