There is no more important human figure in the Old Testament than Moses. He is a person who transcends all the biblical categories that we might suggest. Prophet? Certainly Moses is pictured as a prophet: He is God's spokesman. He declares the word of the Lord courageously and honestly. But he is more than a prophet. Priest? Moses intercedes for the people of Israel time and time again. He literally stands where the priest should stand: between God and the people. Nevertheless, the biblical tradition is careful to trace the priestly line to Aaron. Politician? Moses is never called "king" or "judge," yet he serves as a political leader for the people for more than forty years. Even the casual reader of Exodus, however, recognizes that no political title does Moses justice. Perhaps the best assessment of the man Moses comes from God's own mouth. God simply calls Moses "my servant."
This one-session study traces the major events in Moses' life and how he responded to God's call.
