We've heard a lot of chatter recently from both opponents and supporters of the mosque (called Park 51, or Cordoba House) planned to be built two blocks from ground zero of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001.
While much has already been written and spoken about this controversy, historian Martin E. Marty will help thoughtful Christians stay on message in order to explore the specifically religious concerns. Participants will be faced with tough questions:Are the representations by the mosque builders and their defenders truthful, insofar as we can check them out? Are the representations by the opponents of the building and Cordoba House truthful when they link it with Islamist extremism?
This study will move away from many of the secular, political arguments we've all heard on our favorite news program. Instead, participants will focus on the Christian perspectives of this controversy and look to the Bible instead of the media to examine these religious concerns.
