In this study we examine the Declaration of Independence in an effort to discern its context and clarify its original intent. We'll consider its references and appeals to a higher power and what those references mean to us as people of faith.
To many historians, the Declaration was simply an announcement to the world that the American colonists had decided to assert their independence from British rule--a foreign policy document, nothing more, nothing less.
Yet over the years it has come to be regarded as a document that represents in a stirringly poetic way our American ideals and values. And due to its references to the "Creator," and other allusions to God, however ill-defined, it has gained far greater significance to people of faith.
Through this study, participants will dig deeper into the Declaration's history, examining its impact on the first Americans and its continuing impact on contemporary Christians.
