Karen Armstrong is a former Catholic nun and the author of a number of books on comparative religion. She received the TED Prize in February 2008, which she used to organize a council of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish leaders to identify shared moral priorities and promote universal understanding and respect. The resulting Charter for Compassion was revealed in Washington, D.C., in November 2009. Armstrong's books include The Bible: A Biography and The Case for God.
